In amongst the canes below are ten young red Dogwoods. They arrived from Trees and Hedging last week as 60-80cm bare root plants. They're squatting in my vegetable bed while I clear a proper space for them. Or rather, two proper spaces for them. I like it when there's clumps of plants repeated in a garden.
One set of Dogwoods will fill a blank, where we've stored paving slabs and bricks (to be used around the not-so-new greenhouse). The other set will replace the pyracantha that burnt when a neighbour's bonfire got out of control. He lost the fence (now replaced), our trellis panel, a pyracantha I was training to grow along the fence and some damage to our leaf bin. It could have been so much worse. However I'm still slightly sore that no offer was made to replace the damage on our side of the fence. I know a 5 foot trellis panel is easy to replace, but an offer would have been nice.
Anyway, ending on a pleasanter note. Doesn't this hellebore just make you want to smile?
