A day crafting

I've had a fab day! And had forgotten how good it is to completely lose yourself in something creative. Yesterday I went to Hobbycraft in Crayford and stumbled across decoupage. I've been wanting to improve the black lever arch files we've had in the study, and today was the day it started! I'd originally thought about covering them in material but it turned out a patchwork of paper was just the thing.

I've created four folders today without really knowing what I was doing! To be fair, in Hobbycraft the lady was very helpful especially as I explained I had no idea what I was doing and set out my plan. It seems I wasn't that far off, so today I took the plunge....

Take one dull lever-arch file, one cutting mat and rotary cutter (kept from a previous patchwork quilt life) and some scrapbook paper and PVA glue...  I cut several two inch and two-and-a-half inch strips of the four designs of paper I'd chosen making sure the pattern was cut horizontally and vertically.

To start with I glued the folder as well as the paper as it said on the glue bottle. But I quickly learnt that wasn't necessary. Then I just made it up as I went along...

It was going well, so I started another...

And another and another, each getting more bolder...

Until there were four...

MOH spotted them as he arrived home and paid the greatest compliment (without knowing), thinking that I had been out and bought them today.  But then tempering that with "they're only folders!" and asking if I'd really spent the day "cutting up bits of paper and sticking them back together again."

Tomorrow is the glaze part, I need to google that bit again before I start though!
