I found these pictures yesterday as I emptied* one of the pine drawer units that we used to have in our study - my first car, a Fiat 128 I think:
Never the most stylish of cars (sorry Fiat) it was nonetheless the best car in the world to me as it gave me independence beyond anything I could ever have imagined. I remember zipping off all over the place in this, to many netball games and more. And this was the car, I'm sure that got eight of us (world record, still stands never beaten) from the station to netball training in one go - that was the team and coach/umpire. I told you it was the best car in the world!
It kept that title until one fateful day when on a trip from Dagenham to Barnes, via Croydon (to drop some washing off at my parents house) it started to smoke. Black smoke inside the car. Inside the Blackwall Tunnel. Scary stuff, it made it to Croydon though where there was opportunity for a lift to my netball game from my lovely mother. And the guys next door worked on patching it up for my journey back to Dagenham, Dad did my washing (well Mum was out...!). After that I think it's days were probably numbered, but I'm not sure which car came next - I'll have to search my memory banks for that...
*You're probably wondering why I'm emptying these now. Originally we were keeping the pine drawer units so didn't empty or sort through them. Now we're not keeping them, our plan was to eBay them but when my parents were down last my Mum had her eye on one, so as we were off to Norfolk soon it was emptied in readiness.
