A productive evening...

My oven's been kept busy this evening, sterilising jars, baking replacement cinnamon buns, another sourdough loaf and my tea. It's been another Monday evening when MOH has been out playing darts, so I've been keeping myself busy in the kitchen.

I still had tomatoes to use from our Norfolk haul. None of them were green anymore... Infact they're quite ripe so what better than tomato and chilli jam!  There's 500g of tomatoes, 4 red chillies (including seeds), ginger, 300g caster sugar, 100ml of red wine vinegar and 2 tbsp of Thai fish sauce in these jars. And to be honest it couldn't have been easier.  Blitz the first three ingredients in a food processor, pour into a saucepan and add the remaining ingredients. Melt the sugar while stirring then simmer until it's the consistency you want (about 30-40mins) the store in sterilised jars.

I kept the chilli seeds in, and it seemed quite hot. Next time I'll try with less, but I'm quite impressed with myself...

These are the replacement cinnamon buns. I made some on Saturday but they didn't work so well... And they'd all disappeared, so we needed some more...

So while I was at it I thought why not bake more bread. It seems to be quite usual now for me to bake sourdoughs twice a week (usually Sunday and Monday for some reason). For quite a while now I've not needed the recipe which is both a good thing and a bad thing.

Good because baking bread has become second nature and just something I do as part of my routine; but bad because I'm less likely to try any new kind of sourdoughs!

One day I will...

And in between all this the oven managed to multi-task and bake me a jacket potato too...
