D is for... Donkey

This week my D is actually two donkeys, as I couldn't choose between these two photos.

These donkeys live in a "turismo rural" hotel in the Alentejo region of Portugal. The photos were taken while they were having a brief rest and sunbathe, along with the three sheep they share their paddock with. They're normally up and about so it was good of them to stay still and pose for me, there was plenty of tail swishing too which I hope was a friendly sign.

Donkeys are funny old creatures, and these two seemed happy and contented with life - we don't get to see them much now in the UK (or perhaps they're just off my radar), but I remember donkey rides from my childhood and in the not too distant past of seeing them offering rides outside Greenwich Park.

I'm linking this post to Charly's Alphabet Photo Project over on PODCast, so pop over there and see what other people have chosen for their D.
