This week my word is running. I'm not much of a runner and it isn't something I really like to do but I know it will be good for me, help me get fitter and help shift a kilo or two if I keep going.
So it's something I've decided I'm going to do and was actually disappointed when Bank Holiday Monday was full of rain because I couldn't get out and go for a run. How shocking was that? In fact, how shocking was the weather full stop?
I did get out for a run on Tuesday - in the rain - and boy it was hard. I went out again on Wednesday (it was still hard) and have plans to go out again later today after Pilates. This makes me sound super-fit, but I'm not. I'm starting slowly and plan to increase how much (time and distance) I run gradually.
I won't be joining any races either, as while some people enjoy them and set them as a target to aim for, they're not for me. If I'm going to run, I'm going to do it for me and therefore I don't need to run a race (competitively or otherwise) to gee me along. I do like some music as I run though and this week has seen me order an iPhone armband and download some music to make the running slightly less tedious.
MOH thinks I'm mad as he's already ticked off two 10k runs this summer and is now considering stepping up to a half marathon and I'm very proud of him for it. The other reason he thinks I'm mad is for starting running this week in the rain when I could have been running all summer...
...Erm, honey the sun is for sitting in, not running in - well in my view anyway!
