Love this #93 Majeda Clarke's modern traditionals

It was hard not to fall in love with this Caernarfon Candy Pop Blanket when I walked past it and then quickly backtracked at the 2019 Grand Designs Live. The colours are very modern, but the patterns so traditional. But they work so well together.

Orange and pinks are my colours so it’s not really as surprise that this colour combo caught my eye, is it? And that interest only grew as I learnt more about Majeda Clarke and her textile creations. If your interest is also piqued then you should know they’re not cheap, but they marry Majeda’s Bangladesh heritage with modern Bauhaus, woven in a Welsh mill using a Yorkshire yarn.

The result is simply stunning, and definitely one for my maybe one day wish list. What do you think?

A shed, or Aeropod?

Today’s post has been prompted by recent travels and remembering an stand that it’s safe to say was a little bit more out of the ordinary at Grand Designs Live last year. And yes, even more unusual than most at the show, which for a show that attracts some innovative thinking is quite something.

Not many shows, or perhaps even house owners can boast an Aeropod I’m sure, but it does prompt the question of where do old airplanes go to die, and why don’t we have more of these? The simple answer to the latter is of course cost, but putting that aside for now, shouldn’t reuse be our aim?

It is for Dappr Aviation, and their aeropods are quite something. I almost had to prise MOH away, thankfully (cost aside) there’s no way we can get one of these into our garden - craning it in was even mooted - and having one in the front garden overlooking a busy London road wouldn’t work either.

But they are rather special.

MOH almost took up residency

We spent almost as much time looking at the accessories which also make use of parts of old planes and are equally as innovative.

Aren’t they great?

Love this #90 Contemporary Upholstery

At Grand Designs Live earlier in the year there were plenty of smaller and unique stands which I could have spent much more time looking around. Somehow though I’ve shared very few of those here so far. So it’s time to put that right.

These traditional chairs, have been given a modern look with this contemporary upholstery by Ray Clarke. Every time I look at these pictures, even now, I can’t help but smile.

I think I’d be sitting down on them carefully though.

And did you see the signs? They’re more inviting than usual, aren’t they?

They definitely give that traditional ‘brown’ furniture a fresh new, and fun, new look. What do you think?
